Started the day off yesterday with a little flip through the old wedding album to find something to post, then it was time to get moving to a dentist appointment and that was a bit rough after so many days on break! I was awake, it just seemed like a crazy idea to do things like get dressed and leave the house and all by 9am in the morning.
But it was worth it and things seemed just fine once we were actually in the car! I've been miserable every time I take the kids to the dentist since our insurance changed and we had to leave their pediatric dentist a number of years ago. Evan's had some horrendous tooth pulls (the ones at our first dentist were always fine) and our current dentist is against traditional orthodontics, which is always awkward. So in December, I decided it was time to do something about it and went searching for a new dentist for the kids. I found one that was covered by our insurance and new to the area, but looked great. We could hardly wait to try it out.
And it was so wonderful. I can't express how relieved and happy I was the day I got all set up to switch or the day we went. I was surprised by how big a deal it was to me. Anyway, the new dentist is pro traditional orthodontics, has kid-friendly shows with earphones for each kid instead of cable talk show trash, has a big brand-new second-story office with lots of windows, and instead of junky toys to take home afterwards, the kids each got to pick a BOOK!! This guy knew how to win this mom's forever patronage! The kids were so happy too.
We came home for lunch with Isaac, then went to our friends' house. They're renovating a 1930s house they bought late last summer and Erin needed help to finish caulking, sanding and routing the kitchen and downstairs bathroom cabinets before they were painted today. It was fun to work and visit. Her grandma came to wash windows and we all took an afternoon break for tea together.
Meanwhile, the kids rode bikes, climbed trees (see Evan below?), and played in the playhouses (yes, multiple playhouses) and chicken coop.
When it started to get cold the kids and I came home and snuggled up to read a chapter of our book club book before Mom came to pick them all up to spend the night at her house. Isaac was done working by then so went out to Thai food for dinner - yum!
It started raining that evening and it was so cozy back at home! I got to take a hot bath then we snuggled up to watch a move. This morning Isaac didn't have any meetings till 8am so we had breakfast together, which happened today to be a fried egg, coffee, and avocado toast on Dave's Killer Bread - yum again!
This seemed like a particularly enjoyable anniversary. Usually I don't plan ahead and we're more than holiday'ed out by January 3rd. This year, before Christmas, I made arrangements for the kids to spend the night at my parents' house and planned that we'd have Thai food. Nothing big, but we didn't have to make any decisions or additional plans and it all worked out very nicely. I'm very thankful for a good day to celebrate, for our marriage and family and life together!
